Al Watts will share how the Kane County Forest Preserve District came about, its first 25 years, and the history and pre-history of its first five forest preserves. Encounter the women who led the effort to establish a Forest Preserve District in Kane County 100 years ago, why they did it, and how.

Special guest Mary Ochsenschlager, a local historian, naturalist, and and Volunteer Steward of Bliss Woods, will discuss the history of Sugar Grove’s Bliss Woods Forest Preserve.

Al Watts is the Community Engagement Director for the non-profit organization, Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley. Last year, he was hired as a historical consultant by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County to research, write, and share its 100 years of history.
